This is an antique French brass ball milk jug with a handle made in Normandy circa 1850. It is approx. 15 inches tall with a 15 inch diameter. One website described it as an antique french cane milk spherical brass or brass HAMMERED milk pot with a handle. They were used as a measure of milk for cheese. This one is in good condition with just a wee chip off the brass on the very bottom of the jug and another round dent in the handle (shown in the photos) but considering it is 164 years old I say not bad. Some would also call it French cookware brass milk jug.
I have not polished as I understand that on antiques the original patina is more desirable. I have also put water inside it and it does not leak. I put some floral stuff and added ambient light for a dark corner (floral stuff and light not included). Would make a great conversation piece.
