I'd like to get together with a few people who have been directly affected by the behaviours of a drug addict in their family. A "support group"? Well, something like that but not really. And not like NarAnon and their hopeless "higher power" refrains. Nor anything that hinges on the wonders of psychobabble.
I'd like to form a group based on a more realistic conversation about how to survive. (Maybe a "how to" group?) You know .... When you come to a point and you know you can't fight it any longer, and you know you just need to survive it .. somehow. A group that's more "practical-oriented." Involved in this, of course, would be some discussion of all the feelings. But, ALSO, and at a certain point much more importantly, there have to be goals, and tasks. There has to be movement! You, yourself still want to live. An engaged discussion of the latter (and all the difficulties surrounding that) would, I think, provide the focus of the group. Other thoughts welcome. (While I thank in advance any social workers/psychotherapists who see this ad and want to provide their services, this is ONLY intended to be a group by and for family members DIRECTLY affected.)
