We are a registered Canadian Charity that works in rural communities of Nicaragua providing full scholarships for young students to attend medical school. Our goal is to increase access to healthcare and education in rural Nicaragua by empowering youth to become agents of change in their communities.

Job Summary & Essential Duties:
As a Programs Manager, you will work closely with our Director of Programs, Policy, and Applied Research (PPAR), the PPAR team, and our Nicaraguan partners to develop creative solutions to existing problems for Nicaraguan education and health. You will act as the local link to Nicaragua for the rest of the organization, ensuring the communities we work with have a voice in our program choice, development, implementation, and monitoring. Our programs must be relevant, desired, accessible, and manageable sustainably for the communities we serve. This role can be performed remotely and requires 3 to 5 hours per week.
Set the strategic direction of all programs
Oversee and operate programs from a bottom-up participatory approach
Establish new partnerships with NGOs/Universities in Nicaragua and other contacts
Develop memorandums of understanding with partner organizations in Nicaragua
Act as liaison between DFD/NFN and new and existing partner organizations
Be available for annual visit to Nicaragua to follow up on programs and pursue new opportunities ( this involves creating a travel itinerary)
Build, manage, and inspire a team of volunteers to carry out the following tasks:
Develop program resources in conjunction with our partners
Translate various materials from Spanish to English and vice versa
Write programs related blog posts and assist with communications
Gather relevant data for our other departments and our funders
Advertise DFD/NFN fundraising events to your network
Support other DFD initiatives where possible
Be passionate about our cause!
Fluent in both speaking and writing in Spanish
Completion of a College Diploma or University degree in public health or community development and/or equivalent experience
Some project management experience required
Previous not-for-profit experience, an asset
Able to work independently and takes initiative to complete tasks assigned
Comfortable in team setting and willingness to learn from others
Growth mentality and operational mindset
Strong organizational and time-management skills
